Why BMI Is BS—and What Actually Matters for Women Over 30

Have you ever looked at the scale or your BMI and thought, "WTF? This can’t be right"?
You’re not alone. I used to feel the same way—and so do a lot of the women I coach.

Let me break it down…

According to BMI, I’m “Overweight.” 🙃

I’m 5’3” and 144 lbs.
And guess what? I’m the strongest, fittest, and most energized I’ve ever been.

But BMI says I’m overweight.
And that’s exactly why we need to talk about this outdated, useless chart that’s STILL being used to define our health.

What Is BMI and Why Doesn’t It Work for Women?

BMI (Body Mass Index) was never meant to be a personal health tool. It doesn’t account for muscle mass, strength, energy, or how confident you feel in your skin. It was designed in the 1800s based on men—not on modern women with modern goals.

  • It doesn’t measure muscle.

  • It doesn’t reflect your relationship with food.

  • It doesn’t account for your strength, energy, or hormonal health.

  • And it definitely doesn’t know how hard you’ve worked on your body, mind, and metabolism.

From Shrinking to Strength

I used to chase a smaller number.
Smaller jeans. Smaller meals. Smaller goals.
But all it got me was fatigue, hunger, and anxiety.

Now? I lift heavy. I fuel my body.
And I feel STRONG. Empowered. Alive.

And that’s what I want for you, too.

Here’s What Actually Matters:

  • Muscle Mass: It boosts metabolism, balances hormones, and keeps your body strong as you age.

  • Energy Levels: If you're constantly tired, something’s off. Proper fueling and strength training fix that.

  • Mental Health: Food freedom and body confidence go way further than fitting into old jeans.

  • Consistency: One salad or one slice of cake won’t make or break your journey—how you live most of the time will.

So If You’ve Ever:

  • Let the scale ruin your mood

  • Starved yourself to fit into smaller clothes

  • Thought, “Why am I working so hard but still ‘overweight’?”

Here’s your reminder:
You are not broken. You are not failing. You are learning. You are STRONG.

Strong Is the New Healthy.
